Barbie Visits The Culver Hotel

A few months back, the girl with what some might consider the most enviable Instagram following—2.2M and counting—“walked” into our hotel, and we were instantly charmed by her ageless beauty and timeless sense of style. But what inspired us most was her message for girls everywhere—that you can be anything you want to be. Yes, we are talking about Barbie!

Created by Ruth Handler, a mother, wife and inventor, Barbie has had one purpose since 1959: to inspire the limitless potential in every girl. Just as the world has evolved so has Barbie, thanks to Mattel who made a conscious decision to make her more inclusive and diverse, reflecting the true beauty of real women today. From ethnic backgrounds and body types to career choices and personal style, this global icon has been breaking boundaries and sparking imaginations for decades. “My whole philosophy of Barbie was that, through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted to be. ” says Handler.

Just like any celebrity, Barbie jetsets around with an entire wardrobe and entourage that includes Ken, her puppy, and Mattel’s senior art director and photographer Zlatan Zukanovic, who scouts real locations and iconic backgrounds to meticulously capture her adventures for the @barbiestyle Instagram account. As a female owned and operated business, we can say that through her endless storytelling opportunities and positive female messages, Barbie has inspired us to live out our dreams too. It was our honor to have her visit The Culver Hotel.
